MARCH LECTURE:
“Bringing Wildness Home: Nature as Everyday Inspiration”
Susan J. Tweit, writer and garden designer
Jim Steinberg, photographer
Mitchell Hall
Wednesday, April 15, 7 p.m.
"In wildness is the preservation of the world," wrote Henry David Thoreau in "Walking." Spectacular landscapes surround us, from snow-covered peaks and boldly colored cliffs to the subtle beauty of the expansive plains. But many of us find ourselves disconnected from Colorado’s gorgeous scenery by the frenetic pace of our lives. How can we reconnect to the wildness that Thoreau recognized as vital to our existence long before research documented its mental and physical benefits? Join award-winning writer and garden designer Susan J. Tweit and noted Colorado photographer Jim Steinberg for a look at Tweit's journey from a scientist who studied "pristine" nature in wild places to a gardener restoring wildness on the formerly blighted industrial parcel where she and her husband now live. The talk will feature Steinberg's spectacular images of wild Colorado from the best-selling set “Colorado Scenic Byways: Taking the Other Road,” their most recent collaboration.
